Research among MSI’s Africa Consumer Panel members helps promoting mental health knowledge in Africa.

In June 2018, the World Health Organization (WHO) has released the
International Classification of Disease version 11. This manual is a global
project. Its aim is to help physicians and mental health professionals to
diagnose physical and mental health conditions. However, while the manual is
still a project in going, one continent is underrepresented in terms of mental
health – Africa. In order to address this problem, a group of researchers from
several countries, has decided to embark on a project that will try to
represent the people who live in Africa. This is important in terms of global mental
health and psychiatric epidemiology. The project is for the benefit of people
who live in Africa and the World and helps promoting mental health knowledge in
Africa.
MSI contributed to this cause by conducting a study among
2.500 panel members from Nigeria, Ghana and Kenya to help promoting mental health knowledge in Africa. The
results of the study are being published in an academic journal and will be
used to fine tune the ICD-11 in terms of mental health.
